Who is this course for?
Individuals or teams looking to train a service dog, who are self-directed, responsive to support, motivated to succeed and able to participate in the class schedule and complete assigned tasks.
What does it include?
Live online classes Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 pm EST from January 17th to April 17th. Class member discussion forum, weekly training challenges and online support from Rachel.
What does it cover?
In this 3 month course, we will be working on 3 sections that intertwined are the core of what raising/ training/ socializing a service dog should consist of based on my experience.
COURSE PREREQUISITE:
Prior to the course launch, all registered participants must complete the ABP Foundational Training Program, The Six Pillars of Dog Training Wisdom. This is a semi-private, 2.5 hour class hosted via Zoom and will be offered on the following dates:
- January 6 (Saturday) 10-12:30 pm EST
- January 8 (Monday) 4-6:30 pm EST
- January 9 (Tuesday) 10 - 12:30 pm EST
- January 10 (Wednesday) 6-8:30 pm EST
- January 13 (Saturday) 10-12:30 pm EST
- January 15 (Monday) 1-3:30 pm EST
The initial pre-requisite course will help you and Rachel decide together if you and your dog will be a good fit for the full 3-month course. If for any reason it doesn't seem like it is the right path for you, you are under no obligation to register or pay for the 3 month course ($1600), and will only pay the $250 fee for the pre-requisite.

Part I:
Developing stable and reliable manners
Weeks: Jan 17, 24, 31, Feb.7
The week of February 12th -16th can be used to schedule your included private session or be used as a review or rest week.
Part II:
Public Access Skills
Weeks: Feb. 21, 28, March 6, 13
The week of March 18th - 22nd can be used to schedule your included private session or be used as a review or rest week.
Part III:
Functional/task training (individualized per team) to help mitigate challenges.
Weeks: March 27, April 3, 10 and 17th
Based on over 21 years of professional experience working with service dog training for individuals with a variety of challenges. These partnerships have included individuals addressing psychiatric, medical, mobility and/or neuro-developmental disorders and have included children, teenagers, and adults. My role has ranged from selecting the right “make and model” of dogs over the years (or breeding my own dogs — 3 litters to date in 2018, 2021 and 2023), raising, socializing, and starting dogs, then matching them to and teaching their partners how to continue and increase the range of behaviors the dogs learn to help their partners make life easier, safer, more independent and higher quality. The ones who followed instruction, the vast majority, and learned the lessons taught over time, have had life changing experiences.
